Working together to come up with ideas and solution for problems will allow for increased student creativity.

When I use a graphic organizer or pictures to help explain something, I always model how to complete the graphic organizer on my own befor they are expected to try it themselves. In LA we model brainstorming, filling in an organizer, and finally writing a paper. We collaborate with the students in filling out the visually enticing graphic organizer.

I believe that Google docs can be used to enhance students learning in all classrooms. Certainly when it comes to the first NETS-T standard that deals with facilitating and inspiring student learning and creativity. The use of Google docs would allow students to work together and collaborate on projects and activities not only in the classroom but from home as well. Google docs would also provide the opportunity to work with students in other classrooms and even other schools. This would be a great way of getting the students to see what students in other classrooms and schools are working on. Not only is it a great way to work together but it might also create friendships among students who would normally not hang out together. Another great use of Google docs in the classroom is the forms application. I think that students would love to create surveys and see the results from their peers. This application gives them the opportunity to get to know each other at a different level. I think that this tool would be a great tool to us for solving problems among students. They could create forms to try to understand another persons point of view or thought on a specific situation.
Kelsi Countryman 1a: Through movie maker students could make a fantastic presentation of their learning (multiple topics). I believe this could be used to enhance the strengths of certain students who may not excel in the traditional classroom. In my LA classes for example I could have the students create a presentation through movie maker to show they know the key elements of a story.

- In a personal power class that I teach I could touch on this standard by having the students write journal entries about the days or even weeks activities. I give the kids a question or two to ponder about in the journal assignment that dealt with what we did in class. The kids then use their creativity, and in some cases work with other students and put their ideas on paper. I then go and read these entries and write some positive feedback and comments to them to help support their creativity. Whenever I assign group journals entries, the questions are usually more challenging and require the work of the group and collaborative thinking. Overall it allows for a lot of creativity.
By using google documents with this class I could have kids put their information on google and then other students can read what they write and respond or even just have something to meditate on. I could also put the assignment on google documents so the students can log on, write their journal entry and then send it back to me. This would eliminate paper use as well as allow for multiple people to put in their input.

I could use google documents with my Personal Power class. This group learns a variety of teambuilding activities which help students communicate, problem solve, and trust one another. Their final project includes creating their own teambuilding activity, as well as teaching it to the class. They work in groups of 5-6 people and must create a lesson plan to be turned in on the day they present. I would share the rubric with students and they could create a google document of their lesson plan. This would allow students to collaborate together on their lesson plan, make changes when needed, and I could provide feedback for them as well. This activity would meet NETS-T standard 1.d: "Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments."

The internet is a place where many students are getting their news and information. We can incorporate that into the classroom by allowing them to look up recent or current real world issues and summarize their findings. Many times students do not know how to filter what is true and what is made up, this gives the teachers a chance to explain to the students truth vs reality and using digital resources to get their information and make sure it is reliable.

The first is to come up with a dance, the second is to come up with a game that can be played with the whole class. The class could have an open forum, virtual discussion, having students research, argue, and debate a specific topic. In using this technique students would learn how to have an ongoing discussion on a specific topic, they would also be leanring how to research and debate a certain topic.

Create a Wiki page for students to research jazz artists and share information. Each student will research a composer from an upcoming concert. Students will create a WIKI page for each. I believe that WIKI would be a fantastic tool for this Standards, particularly with (a) which, "promotes, support and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness" because of the ability for students edit, share and advocate their thoughts on an infinite number of possiblities. I can see WIKI being a great tool in my classroom when we learn about the various Reading Comprehension strategies. Students can share and discuss their techniques for a particular reading strategy and provide examples of them. I think it would also lead to discussions about test-taking strategies, which everyone can benefit from.

Students are already familiar with social networks, such as MySpace and Facebook, With those, students are already reading and responding via virtual messaging. By introducing students to Wikis, they can interact with each other, but it can be focused on a specific academic topic. They are able to read, respond, reflect, and correspond with each other about the topic I have introduced. This also allows for interaction between teacher and students. It is a constant process that can continue throughout a unit of study.

I could use Audacity and Movie Maker with my dance classes to support the above standard. In my classes, students learn a variety of dances. They could then use the two programs to create a music video. Obviously, there would have to be some guidelines set in place as well as a discussion on what would be appropriate. I think it would be a fun, creative way for students to show off their dancing, singing, speaking abilities. It could be used as their final project.

I could use audacity and movie maker in my classroom to work on reading fluency. I see this as a wonderful tool to use in showing students how they sound/look while reading. In showing them, I would then be able to help them make changes to be a more fluent reader, and they would be able to see what that looks like/sounds like as well. I think that the kids would really enjoy seeing themselves and perhaps be able to conceptualize a skill that for many first graders is very abstract. It could be used as an RtI intervention.

NETS-T 1.c. I think that Movie Maker would be a great tool for reflection on projects. I can envision students using Movie Maker in order to "interview" one another about their performance, especially with a group project. Although the discussion/interview itself might be quite lengthy or perhaps "go off on tangents," they could edit their interview/discussion to the most important aspects, which they would then turn in as their final aspect of the project. Also, with having the option to edit and re-do, students might provide better and more honest feedback. This type of feedback is always helpful to the teacher as well in helping us to revise a project for future classes.

1c- Using the moviemaker to create a new way for students to complete a student-generated notes project for a chapter. Instead of the typical ppt, they could put together movie clips that shows students discussing and creating their notes for a specific seciton. The movie maker could also take the place of an essay where students could discuss the topic, sharing ideas while making their points clear. A rubric would have to be in place but it would make it more interesting.

1c- I currently have students using a program similar to moviemaker to edit a weekly news cast that 5th grade students film throughout the week. The students download the video files into the video editing software and then create a weekly news cast. This has become a valuable tool to help the students become creative thinkers, and gain a overall understanding of how digital video software works and what they can do with this kind of software.

Using video editing software for students for their own awareness of movement could really benefit students who are unable to complete certain tasks. By showing a student how they are moving and then showing them what the correct movement would look like might aid in better understanding. I would consider using Audacity to leave messages for my substitute teacher and for my classes on days when I will not be in my classroom. Audacity would allow me to leave very specific, detalied instructions for both my sub and students. In fact, I can personalize different messages for each class period. When students hear my voice, (hopefully) it will create a sense of normality even though there is a sub in the classroom.

NETS-T My students really like making videos of the different battles that we discuss in class. I have never been able to edit a video that I’ve recorded, nor help students with any technical needs they have. The videos have always been made and edited outside of school. I would like to assign this project again, but use time in class to do the editing. Since our school has Movie Maker, it would be great to see my students utilizing that program with their group in school. It also eliminates the problem of one student doing all of the work. I would like to model how to use Movie Maker, then help the kids with any questions that they have.

This is a way to make children feel a part of something broader and more important.
